I followed the directions to import a recipe from my computer, but the link given did not work: it timed out, "failed to open page"

We have had some mail exchange with Tania and now seems to work.

I also followed the directions to import a recipe from my computer, but the link was only listed as:

http://

I tried at least 10 times and it never gave me a URL link. What should I do?

Thanks!

I had the same issue as Sharon where the only link listed was "http://". Please advise. Thanks!

Can you give me some information for replicate the problem?
How is your network connection: a computer and a router wi fi?

On the iPhone app, I pressed the import button and went to a screen titled "Handy CookBook Importer." The text of the screen says:

The connection is active, please open your preferred web browser on your personal computer and type the following link:

The area below first says "Wait...." then after a few seconds gives me a link that says only "http://."

Both my laptop and iPhone is connected to the same wi-fi router.

Thanks!

This is strange, can You try to do this:
in your iPhone goto Settings > General > About
in the first row will appear the name of Your iPhone
,something like 'iPhone of Vivian', take note.
Open Handy CookBook and press the import button.
On your PC open the web browser and put the link :

iPhone-of-Vivian.local:8080

where you have to put the - instead of spaces in the name of Your iPhone and .local:8080 at the end.
I hope to be clear.
Try and tell me what happens.

Another tip: try to connect your iPhone to your computer, then in iTunes.
Select the iPhone in the devices list, and click its name. Then enter a new name without strange characters (no comma, point etc).
Tell me if it works.

I had the same link issues and resolved them by using the IP address of the phone.

I typed in http://ipaddress:8080 and that worked for me.

I had to get my IP address for the phone from another application though...

The solution of Callie is correct.
You can also find your IP address going to
Settings > Wi-Fi > 'your network' > DHCP see the IP Address (something like 192.168.x.x)

and type the link http://ipaddress:8080 in your browser.

I think the problem is due to a non correct iPhone network name translation to address.
This will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks Max and Callie! Using the IP address worked.

(BTW, my iPhone name does include an apostrophe so that may have been the cause of the problem.)

Will this program work on an iTouch?

max said...

I don't have tested the app for the iPod touch but I have had more requests.
Now I'm working to manage the categories in the next release.
I hope to have the iPod touch in the next days for testing the app.

I have just tested the app with the iPod touch.
I think that the next release will be compatible with the iTouch.

Hi, I love your program, but I miss the possibility to make categories like starters, soups, main courses, deserts and bakery. An icon for soups would also be nice. But apart from that: very nice! :)

Hello Max
I'm having problems with the form
do you have a limit of characters for the preparation part when importing from the PC
I cannot upload the whole recipe

max said...

Hi, there are no limits for text input. Can you send me the preparation part? I will try to test in the version that I'm developping. maxxrun@gmail.com

I am having a similar problem with my itouch. I am given a link to type in and both in Safari and IE7 the page does not open.

In Safari the message is 'Safari could not open the page “http://192.168.1.64:8080/” because the server is not responding."

In IE7 it is the standard Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

Could you help please.

Hi, Katie, sorry for delay of answer.
The problem are when you try to send the recipe or when you try to connect?
I have found a bug in version 1.4 that in some case can hang the app when a is recipe is sended.

Sorry for my late reply been away. However, the problem happens when I try to connect I do not even get anywhere near loading recipes.

I select the tool in the itouch, which say the connection is active and type in the listed link on my personal computer, which I do so but my IE7 comes back with the web page displaying 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'.
