About the 1.3 version

I have some users who have reported connection problem with the wi-fi network.
The network configurations are very different and for understand the issue I need to know some information like the hardware (mac or pc) the OS (windows XP, Vista, Mac OSX) and also, if you can, the type of network (example router at home, access point public or at work etc).

I have a little suggestion: verify that the IP address shown for the iPhone is the same that you have in the iPhone configuration.
You can find your IP address going to
Settings > Wi-Fi > 'your network' > DHCP see the IP
Address (something like 192.168.x.x)

Insert http://ipaddress:8080 in your browser witht :8080 at the end.
For example if the address are 192.168.1.5 insert in the web browser

http://192.168.1.5:8080

I have found a bug in version 1.3 that in some case can hang the app when a is recipe is sended.
I think to release a fix in short time.

I had several failures at connecting via a web browser over a couple of hours after installing. I tried it again later, and it works! Same IP address, same browsers - both Safari on my Mac and IE 7 in WinXP (running on my Mac under VMware Fusion), on a home LAN.
Anyway, it works now, and I think I'm going to really like it. It's quick to paste the ingredient list and instructions into the 2 fields in the web form (glad I don't have to enter ingredients one at a time!) And I like that I can email a recipe.
Thanks for the quick response!

I like your app but it be cool if it had more categories; like beef, pork, poultry, seafood, vegetables, baked goods. I am having so problems with 'preparation' not letting me put all the info in.

otherwise it works great

thanks
chris

Hi fj40,
you can add new category and also edit the existing category simply tap the edit button in the main screen of app.
A new item appear with the + button and the text 'Add new category..', this is for insert a new custom category.
You can change the description and also the icon or image.
For the import problem don't use the character '&' in the text, ther is a issue that truncate the text.
I will fix in the next release.

I'm using IE on Windows Vista and do not own a Mac Computer. Will this work for me?
If so, where do I copy/paste my recipes online for them to sync with the program? Is there a website?
I haven't purchased the program because I didn't know if it would work.
Thanks!

The importer function in Handy CookBook works with any Operative System but require a Wi-Fi network connection from iPhone and PC or Mac (ie PC router and iPhone).
You can connect to iPhone with your favorite web browser (Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox etc) and insert the recipes data compiling a web form.
Is the easy way to insert the recipe data.

I guess my biggest confusion is "Where is this web form?" Does the app direct me to a website once it's installed?

Okay! I installed it and it gave me further instructions. I can't wait to get it going!

Question. Is my database being backed up with itunes sync? What happens with firmware upgrade? Love the new look and options!

The iTunes backup works see also the link
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
I have just upgraded my firmware and no have had problem, all my data are in the iPhone.
But if you have a jailbroken iPhone it can is different.
I don't know if works or not in this case.

I have been reading all the solutions to the connection problem, but still ending up with no web form to complete and 'IE cannot display the web page'. I am using a laptop on a home WiFi router. My operating system is Windows XP with IE7. The only thing I have noticed and not sure if it makes a difference the IP address on the itouch is 2 digits different to the address detailed on my Wi-Fi setting on my laptop - would this have any impact.

I am desparately waiting to be able to upload my recipes but do not want to have to do so by typing them all in on the itouch keypad, have you any suggestions how I get the web form up.

Type in the address exactly as it's shown in the recipe program. Make sure you use a colon instead of a dot before the last set of numbers. I messed that part up the first few times and got the same error messages.

Unfortunately I have used the address that comes up on the itouch for the recipe program and used a colon before the last set of digits and get the same response every time. Believe I try and keep trying and no getting anywhere at all. Any other suggestions would be helpful.

If the original post from the developer didn't help, I don't know what else to suggest. However, don't delete the app! He says he is working on a fix and you will really love this when you get it working!

I have just submitted to Apple the 1.3.1 version, generally if there isn't problem in few days are disponible for the update.
I hope that this version solve the connection issue.
Im also working to the version 1.4 with a integrated shopping list that can be used individually but also automatically filled with the ingredients of the selected recipes.

Thank you Max the new version has worked for me and am now in the process of uploading all my recipes into your program.
